This class is designed to prepare volunteers who work with young or inexperienced Girl Scouts to lead them on their first overnight camping experience.
Participants will gain confidence in their ability to work with girls to plan, implement, and evaluate a trip to a Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan lodge or cabin. Some of the topics that will be covered are: camping progression for Girl Scouts, menu planning, reservation process, kaper charts, basic fire building (for warmth/ambiance/s’mores and safety), food storage, pump safety, sanitation, and outdoor etiquette.
Pre-requisite: Trip Planning
Required for: Leaders or designated outdoor skills resource adults in order to use our cabin and lodge facilities and do basic fire building.

Hello we are very sad I am our camping mom cannot make this training and we’re really hoping that you have another one in June like you did last year, because our hearts are set on camping this summer. We tried last year and it didn’t work out either. Hopefully you could consider adding one more course before the summer? May is still so early in the season to stop offering the course! Are there other trainings that are going to be offered? The only one I can find is Millington which is a combined Outdoor 1&2 and not recommended if we haven’t been to camp.
Hello Jennifer, At this time we do not have an Outdoor Skills I scheduled. Troop Camp Plus at Camp Linden Sept 20-22 2019 will have Outdoor Skills Training available. Have a great day.
