Cancelled Outdoor Skills 1 & 2 – Camp Wacousta – 4/25/2020

We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.

There are no upcoming dates for this event.

Outdoor Skills 1:  This class is designed to prepare volunteers who work with young or inexperienced Girl Scouts to lead them on their first overnight camping experience.

Participants will gain confidence in their ability to work with girls to plan, implement, and evaluate a trip to a Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan lodge or cabin. Some of the topics that will be covered are: camping progression for Girl Scouts, menu planning, reservation process, kaper charts, basic fire building (for warmth/ambiance/s’mores and safety), food storage, pump safety, sanitation, and outdoor etiquette.

Outdoor Skills 2:  Some of the topics that will be covered are advanced cooking methods (over various heat sources), equipment rental, camp/tent care, knots, outdoor etiquette, and health and safety.

Note:  Overnight on Saturday is strongly encouraged/recommended but not required.  During the overnight we will cook a meal over a campfire and learn fun things to do outdoors with your troop (songs, games, skits, hikes, trail laying, etc). Plus it’s great networking time.
